Morning Assembly: 01. Lisa Maruyama
Our very first guest on the Morning Assembly Podcast is Lisa Maruyama. Lisa is the President and CEO of Hawaiʻi Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations (HANO). She has been with HANO for the past 11 years and has been friends with HIHO for the past 6 years. Our talk takes us from our first meetings (all three of them) to Chicago to Washington DC and back. Along the way we discuss a lot of different things eventually getting around to some nonprofit topics and volunteerism.
Some topics we discuss:
Why did it take a pandemic for nonprofits to collaborate openly?
Why did the pandemic give us permission to collaborate so easily when the need was always there?
Why can’t we have flexibility and creativity in the nonprofit sector when it comes to funding and partnerships?
What does pivoting during the pandemic look like?
What is the Kūkulu Switchboard and how can it help nonprofits in Hawaiʻi?
What does our sector look like after COVID-19? And who are the architects of this future?
What do events/large gatherings look like for the sector?
